Work from Abroad.
5 steps to living a life most dream of.
Picture this: a post-pandemic revolution is sweeping across the globe, granting people the incredible freedom to work from the sanctuary of their own homes.
It's an exhilarating movement, no doubt. But let me ask you this: why settle for the mundane routine of working from your couch when you can unlock a world of endless possibilities? Imagine yourself sitting in a charming Parisian café, sipping on a freshly brewed cup of coffee as you delve into your work, surrounded by the vibrant energy of one of the world's most iconic cities. If you’re wondering if you can turn this dream into a reality, you're in the right place.
Step 1.
Get a Remote Job.
Lets address the most obvious thing first. You have to have money to travel, lets be real. For those that say you don’t need that much are usually willing to sacrifice comfort. I’m just not one of those girlies LOL. Now I’m not saying I need to stay at the Ritz but I do expect a clean space when I lay my head to rest.
First decide if you are able to find a role with an established company that allows you to work remotely or if you would rather dabble in freelance work. If you don’t have any experience working online, there are plenty of opportunities for beginners. That being said, You may have to take a pay cut at first - But over time you can either work your way up or gain more online technical skills that make you more competitive. This first step is the most time consuming and frustrating if you don’t land a job right out the gate. This is where you need to kick your perseverance into hyperdrive. You will get there! Its a numbers game when applying to roles, so apply to as many as you can. You may get an interview 1 out of every 50 jobs you apply to.
Step 2.
Decide where you want to go.
This step is quite easy if you’ve been day dreaming of places. However - If you want to make the most of your time and money here is what I suggest.
Make a list of the places you want to see
Create a visual map of those places. I use Google maps to help organize my thoughts. Then I create lists for specific areas I want to visit within those countries (Things to do, Restaurants to see, cities to pop into)
Create a Timeline for your visit: A week, A month, half a year?
Step 3.
Create a Budget.
Now that you have your vision board of where you want to go. Can you even afford it? Now this is seriously one of the MOST important things. Nothing saddens me more than getting to an exciting new place and not being able to do what I want to do because of your financial limitations.
Before you get to your destination here is what I suggest:
Decide what is important to you! What I mean by this is, when you’re in a location do you want to ball out on your accommodation, experiences or food? (These are your 3 biggest expenses) Really dig deep and ask yourself what would you regret not doing in this place once you have left?
Spreadsheets should become your best friend. I can go more in depth on this**
Step 4.
Invest in some work gear. Its all about quality and efficiency over quantity of items! Especially if you want to pack light.
I have specifically curated some of my favorite items on my Amazon storefront, that are a game changer.
Here is a list of must haves:
A light laptop
A backup hard drive and external batteries
Blue light glasses
A carry on pack back that holds ALL your valuables
Noise canceling head phones
Tech organizer
Step 5.
Create Routine!
So much to do, so little time! Is always the thought that plays in my head. However there have been a few things that I’ve learned over time that easy that feeling.
Get one! - Meaning focus on one thing at a time! Holy cow thats hard. But trust me, focusing on a million things at once, never works out well. No matter how good of a multi- tasker you may think you are.
Mind, Body & Soul - As busy as days may get, block out the time for your mental health whether that means (meditation, reading a book, yoga), block out atleast 30-60 mins a day for exercise. Your soul will thank you for these beautiful choices.
To do lists are my favorite. The endorphins I get from checking off something I needed to do is awesome! Plus you can place all your thoughts on to a piece of paper and it may not seem so over bearing once its no longer floating in your mind.
Give your self deadlines.
